Description:
In ultrasonic sealing, the heat required for melting is generated only within the thermoplastic sealing layer. To achieve localized conversion of vibrations into frictional heat, the anvil or sonotrode profiles are typically linear. These profiles focus the energy input, resulting in short sealing times of 100 to 200 milliseconds. Unlike heat sealing, where heat is applied from the outside, ultrasonic sealing generates heat internally within the material. The tools that come into direct contact with the packaging material, such as the sonotrode and anvil, remain cold throughout the welding process.
As a result, the support layer of the material stays almost cool, and once the energy input stops, the heat dissipates more quickly to the outside due to the temperature difference between the support and sealing layers. This process significantly improves the hot-tack resistance of the seal.
In ultrasonic lace sewing machines, ultrasonic vibrations and steel molds are used to complete the processing, along with applied pressure.
