Product Description

Ultrasonic homogenizer is mainly composed of two parts, an ultrasonic generator and an ultrasonic vibration part( ultrasonic transducer with booster and probe), which are connected by a dedicated cable.
 

Emulsions are dispersions of two or more immiscible liquids. Highly intensive ultrasound supplies the power needed to disperse a liquid phase (dispersed phase) in small droplets in a second phase (continuous phase). In the dispersing zone, imploding cavitation bubbles cause intensive shock waves in the surrounding liquid and result in the formation of liquid jets of high liquid velocity. At appropriate energy density levels, ultrasound can well achieve a mean droplet sizes below 1 micron (micro-emulsion).


Ultrasound creates acoustic cavitation, which produces violently imploding vacuum bubbles, causing shock waves, microjets and strong shear forces as well as extreme local temperatures (~5,000 K)and pressures (~1,000 atm). These extreme conditions result in exceptionally efficient mixing, yielding nanoemulsions with very small droplet sizes and enormous contact areas between all components.

How Does Ultrasound Cavitation Work?
Ultrasonic extraction is achieved when high-power, low-frequency ultrasound waves are coupled into a slurry consisting of botanical material in a solvent. High-power ultrasonic waves are coupled via a probe-type ultrasonic processor into the slurry. highly energetic ultrasound waves travel through the liquid creating alternating high-pressure / low-pressure cycles, which results in the phenomenon of acoustic cavitation. Acoustic or ultrasonic cavitation leads locally to extreme temperatures, pressures, heating/cooling rates, pressure differentials and high shear forces in the medium. When cavitation bubbles implode on the surface of solids (such as particles, plant cells, tissues etc.), micro-jets and interparticlular collision generate effects such as surface peeling, erosion, particle breakdown, sonoporation (the perforation of cell walls and cell membranes) and cell disruption. Additionally, the implosion of cavitation bubbles in liquid media create macro-turbulences and micro-mixing. Ultrasonic irradiation represents an efficient way to enhance mass transfer processes, since sonication results in cavitation and its related mechanisms such as micros-movement by liquid jets, compression and decompression in the material with the subsequent disruption of cell walls, as well as high heating and cooling rates. Probe-type ultrasonicators can generate very high amplitudes, which is necessary to generate impactful cavitation. Ultrasonic extraction is used in the food, nutritional supplement and pharmaceutical industry to release bioactive compounds such as vitamins, polyphenols, polysaccharides, cannabinoids and other phytochemicals from botanicals. The ultrasound-assisted extraction is based on the working principle of acoustic or ultrasonic cavitation.

Advantages:

1. The emulsification quality is high. The average droplet size of the formed emulsion is small, which can reach 0.2~2um. The droplet size distribution range is narrow, up to 0.1~10um. The concentration is high, the concentration of pure emulsion can reach 30%, adding emulsifier can reach 70%.
2. The emulsification is stable, you can produce stable emulsions without or with less emulsifiers, and some can be stable for several months or even more than half a year, with low energy consumption, high production efficiency and low cost.
3. The type of emulsion can be controlled. Under certain sound field conditions, both oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions can be prepared. However, it is impossible to achieve mechanical emulsification. Only the properties of emulsifiers can control the type of emulsion. For example, when toluene is emulsified in water, one type of emulsion can be formed under low sound intensity conditions, and another type of emulsion can be formed under high sound intensity conditions.
4. Low power required to produce emulsion.
5. The type of emulsion can be controlled. Using ultrasonic emulsification, under certain sound field conditions, both O/W (oil-in-water) and W/O (water-in-oil) emulsions can be prepared; however, mechanical emulsification is impossible, and only the properties of the emulsifier can control the emulsion type.
